Missouri corn planting 18 days slower than normal

A warm and wet week inMissouri kept a lot of farmers out of the fields. According to the state agricultural statistics office, rainfall averaged almost three inches across the state, leaving less than a full day suitable for fieldwork with corn planting now 18 days behind normal at 31% and emergence 20 days slower thannormal at 6%.

Rice planting is at the halfway mark, but 5 days slower than average and cotton is a week behind normal at 17%. Soybean planting is just underway at 2%, which is 12 days slower than normal.

58% of pasture is in good to excellent shape,with 81% of the state reporting an adequate hay supply and 70% reporting adequate water supplies. Spring tillage is at 51% compared to 69% on average. 62% of the state has surplus topsoil moisture and 37% of subsoil has surplus moisture.
