Weeds develop stacked herbicide resistance
Herbicide resistance issues seem to vary from state to state. University of Illinois molecular weed science professor Patrick Tranel says water hemp poses a problem for Illinois producers. In cases, it’s become resistant to glyfosate, but, says Tranel, the same populations have also begun to stack resistance to other compounds, such as ALS inhibitors and PPO inhibitors. Tranel says they continue to recommend pre-emergence weed treatment, not only in the effort to avoid resistance issues, but also as good general week control.
