Dorr: U.S. will remain reliable corn supplier

While this month’s Supply and Demand Estimates report lowers the U.S. corn yield and production forecast from last month, U.S. Grains Council President Tom Dorr says market challenges will be addressed.

Dorr says U.S. farmers have established the United States as a reliable grain supplier in the global marketplace.

Dorr compared Friday’s corn production forecast of 12.7 billion bushels with an average yield of 155.8 bushels per acre to 2008 production of 12.1 billion bushels of corn with an average yield of 153.9 bushels per acre.

He says the Council doesn’t anticipate the forecast production levels to dramatically alter the U.S. long-term global marketplace position. He concedes, on the other hand, that there will be short-term price effects and that the U.S. needs to be sensitive to that.
