Region VII EPA official faces Nebraska cattlemen
At the annual meeting of Nebraska Cattlemen (NC) in Kearney last week, a senior advisor for Region VII of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency—Josh Svaty—fielded questions from those attending the NC Natural Resources Committee meeting.
Svaty, who is a former Kansas secretary of agriculture, discussed several topics including the controversial “dust rule”; CAFO overflights; spill prevention control and countermeasures; the perception that Lisa Jackson and the EPA are “out to get agriculture”; and reports that the EPA is “targeting” Nebraska CAFOs for increased surveillance in 2012.
