It’s a better looking crop
This year’s growing season is definitely a prettier picture in most areas than it was a year ago.
Beck’s Hybrids vice-president Scott Beck says it’s not just visually prettier. And that bodes well for seed production. “Yield checks that we’ve done show that the yields are there,” he says. “So seed quality and seed production are right in line where we projected.”
He tells Brownfield a lot of the farmers he’s talked to this week are excited about the potential of for year’s crop. “I’ve talked to several different farmers from Ohio and it looks like Ohio is really producing some good crops,” he says. “As you move west (western Indiana into Illinois) the crop is going to be further behind. But overall, I think crop yields are on pace for big numbers in some particular areas.”
