Sale of Champions attracts new buyers
The Sale of Champions held the final day of the 2013 Ohio State Fair had a several first time buyers, but one buyer in particular caused quite a buzz.
Mark Kvamme of Sunbury bought the Grand Champion Meat Goat, the Grand Champion Barrow and the Reserve Grand Champion Steer. A tech guy, who has no background what-so-ever with livestock, Kvamme said he came to the sale hoping to buy the Grand Champion Barrow.
“But I saw that little girl with the goat and fell in love with her, so I had to have a goat I guess,” said Kvamme. “And then Steve Rauch and I were chatting about how it helps the kids, so I thought we should get the Reserve Champion and help everybody out.”
Kvamme says after seeing and talking with the kids it was an easy decision to support the Sale of Champions.
“I see what these kids do, I mean it’s a ton of work and it’s so great to see them rewarded for hard work, because a lot of things we do in life you don’t really understand that,” Kvamme said. “What I love about the ag community and the kids is the fact that they put in the hard work and they get rewarded for it.”
Kvamme paid $20,000 for the Grand Champion Meat Goat, $42,500 for the Grand Champion Barrow and $35,000 for the Reserve Grand Champion Steer, for a total of &97,500.
The question for Mark Kvamme at the end of the sale, “will he be back next year.”
“I don’t know if my wife will let me back next year (laughs), we’ll have to discuss that later,” said Kvamme (laughs).
