Ohio Corn Marketing Program referendum passes
Corn farmers in Ohio have voted in favor of a referendum which increases the corn checkoff from ½ cent per bushel to ¾ of a cent.
Tadd Nicholson, Executive Director of the Ohio Corn Marketing Program says the 85 percent voting in support of the increase reflects the confidence farmers have in the checkoff program.
“I think it’s a good day for our checkoff, but really all checkoffs in general,” Nicholson said. “The idea of farmers helping themselves has paid off, it’s paid dividends in the past and farmers believe in it.”
Nicholson says the increase in the checkoff will help fund programs specific to Ohio.
“Like water quality and the amount of research that’s needed to help us today, to continually improve the way we are farming,” said the OCMP Executive Director.
In addition, Nicholson says funds can be pooled to support programs that are more national in scope.
