Kashi settlement on “all natural”

Kellogg’s reportedly has agreed to stop using the “all natural” claim on its Kashi food labels that contain non-natural ingredients or to change some of its formulas because of legal action taken against it. Reports say the company has been fined $5 Million in the class action lawsuit. The settlement, reached in a federal California court earlier this month, is subject to court approval.  Among the ingredients in question were hexane processed soy ingredients, ascorbic acid and sodium phosphate.

Kellogg’s is another in a string of companies backing away from “all natural” claims on food labels.

The Food and Drug Administration does not have a definition for “all natural” but has allowed it on foods that do not have artificial colors or flavors or synthetic ingredients.
