Seed production a year-round endeavor
Seed companies work year-round to ensure adequate supplies for farmers.
Bayer Crop Science unit lead Tyler Reiner oversees the safety, quality, and production of Bayer’s commercial soybean processing facility near Redwood Falls, Minnesota.
“So it would be planning for what we we’re going to produce for the future, and what we’re currently producing.”
He tells Brownfield a planning team is constantly forecasting crop size and seed demand.
“To ensure that we can produce everything that we need to in a timely manner. Those numbers have been coming through, obviously harvest has started. We’ve been running now for three to four weeks and everything is running really well.”
Reiner says the Redwood Falls commercial facility grows approximately 100,000 acres of soybean seed across western Minnesota and eastern South Dakota.
