Debate about the safety of energy products continues
Illinois Congressman Dick Durbin reportedly plans to reintroduce a bill that would require supplement and energy drink makers to register more information about potential adverse health effects of their products. In addition, a group of leading physicians and public health professionals has written to FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg insisting that there is documented evidence of negative health effects and even death from energy products and the caffeine in them should no longer be considered “Generally Regarded as Safe” (GRAS) by the federal agency. From the consumer standpoint – if in doubt about whether energy drinks are right for you and your children, ask your health care professional.
