Healthy school lunch standards challenged
What’s happening in Washington, D.C. could affect what’s happening with the healthy school lunch program. The head of the US Department of Agriculture, Secretary Tom Vilsack, says the standards that have been in place for two years are making a positive difference. But the U.S. House Appropriations Committee allowed a provision in the Ag Appropriations Bill that would give financially struggling school districts a year’s waiver to not have to meet the standards that some lawmakers say would undermine the standards in an attempt to do away with them.
