It’s Earth Day – and the sustainability of food production has improved
Whether farmers are raising cattle for beef, hogs for pork, or corn, soybeans, and specialty crops, their environmental footprint has improved significantly over the years.
In beef production, managed grazing systems rotate cattle across pastures giving time for land to rest and regrow. Healthy grasslands can store significant amounts of carbon, which is beneficial in fighting climate change.
In some operations, production agriculture is a sustainable loop. In some operations, farmers not only raise crops, but they also raise livestock, like cattle. Cattle eat the crop residue (think corn stalks) and then the manure provides fertilizer for the next crop cycle.
