What’s going on with avocado price and availability

Avocados may become more difficult to find after the U.S. temporarily blocked imports of the fruit from Mexico following a safety threat against a US ag inspector. 

Mexico is the largest avocado grower and exporter in the world, and the U.S. imports 80 percent of its crop. California supplies about 15 percent of the U.S. avocado market, making it difficult to produce enough to meet demand.

So, how long will the ban remain in place? The US Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service says the suspension will remain in place as long as necessary to ensure the safety of personnel working in Mexico.
