GrainCoat simplifies grain marketing for farmers

A Northwest Illinois farmer recently launched GrainCoat, a simplified grain marketing tracking and inventory management system for growers.

Sean Arians, owner of GrainCoat, struggled with tracking his own grain sales while working off the farm.

“I wanted something simple that didn’t require a lot of data entry, that was easy for a farmer to enter once and then it just becomes a verification process – not entering a crop plan every year.”

Arians says once the crop plan is entered in the system, if on a crop rotation, GrainCoat will automatically rotate and project the bushels available to sell up to five years in advance. It will also track delivery contracts, as well as where the grain goes, eliminating calls to the elevator.

GrainCoat helps farmers take advantage of market swings throughout the year, by always having information right at their fingertips. Delivery reminders, end of year reports and other GrainCoat services make marketing less stressful.

The online version of the system can be found on the GrainCoat website.

Arians says he is working on developing a mobile app for the program and will continue to make additions and improvements to it.

“Being a farmer myself provides a completely different perspective from other systems out there. That has been the foundation of GrainCoat.”
