CME cash dairy prices mixed

Cash dairy prices were mixed Thursday the Chicago Mercantile Exchange.

Dry whey unchanged at $0.5650.

Blocks down $0.04 at $2.0375. Two sales were made at $2.0350 and $2.0375.

Barrels down $0.1225 at $2.10.

Butter down $0.02 at $3.13. Twenty-two sales were made from $3.12 to $3.1525.

Nonfat dry milk up $0.0025 at $1.2825. One sale was made at that price.

Butter stocks are building ahead of holiday demand while cheese inventories are declining.

The USDA’s latest Cold Storage report pegs July cheese stocks at more than 1.4 billion pounds, down slightly from the prior month and six percent from last year.

Butter inventories were down six percent from the previous month but up seven percent from a year ago at nearly 534 million pounds.
