CME dairy prices mostly up Tuesday, GDT index down

The dairy markets were mostly up at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange Tuesday.  

Class Three milk for April was up $.15 at $14.44 a hundredweight.  May was up $.16 to $14.46. June was up $.11 to 14.83. July was up $.13 to $15.43.  Milk futures from August through January were all up from six to ten cents.

Grade AA Butter was up $.02 at $2.24 a pound.  Ten carloads were sold with prices ranging from $2.2250 to $2.24.

Barrels were unchanged at $1.4450 a pound. Ten carloads sold with prices from $1.4450 to $1.45.

 40-pound blocks were up $.02 at $1.55 a pound.   Three carloads sold with prices from $1.5350 to $1.55.

Nonfat dry milk was unchanged at $.69 a pound.  No sales were recorded.

Dry whey was unchanged at $.28 cents a pound.  No sales were recorded.

The Global Dairy Trade auction event Tuesday morning had its price index fall 0.6% and the average winning price was $3,477.  There were 169 bidders that bought more than 17-thousand metric tons. More than half of the product sold was whole milk powder, and nearly a quarter of the product sold was skim milk powder.  

Whole milk powder sold for $3,278 a metric ton, or $1.49 a pound.  Skim milk powder sold for $1,849 a metric ton, or $.84 per pound. Butter sold at $5,494 a metric ton or $2.49 per pound.  Casein sold for $5,668 a metric ton or $2.57 per pound. Cheddar cheese bids reached $3,679 a metric ton or $1.67 per pound.  The next Global Dairy Trade event is April 17th.
