Midday cash livestock markets
Direct cash cattle trade activity remains quiet. Asking prices have surfaced at $224 to $225 live in the South, but still haven’t been floated in the North. Bids remain elusive. Showlists are lower across all major feeding areas. Look for significant trade volume to develop sometime Thursday or Friday.

Cash hog prices were not reported at midday with solid negotiated purchases. Demand for U.S. pork on the global market, outside of China, has been strong. That’s supportive to prices. The five-day rolling average for barrows and gilts at the National Daily Direct is $94.12; at the Iowa/Minnesota it is $94.06; at the Western Corn Belt it’s $94.59; and at the Eastern Corn Belt it’s $92.24.
