Monday midday cash livestock prices
Iowa/Minnesota direct trade barrows and gilts opened .73 lower with a weighted average of 51.90 on a carcass basis, eastern direct down .97 at 51.38. Missouri direct base carcass meat price steady to 2.00 lower from 49.00 to 50.00. Three plants are closed for floating holidays and three others are dark due to reduced summer slaughter schedules. The Monday kill is expected to be down 100, 000 head as a result of the closures. Pork trading is at a near standstill.
Cash cattle trade is typically quiet as buyers and sellers are focused on collecting the new show lists. The offering is expected to be about steady with last week.
Feeder cattle receipts at Joplin, Missouri on Monday totaled 5500 head. Steers calves opened steady to 2.00 higher, heifer calves and yearling steers and heifers traded steady to 2.00 lower early. Feeder steers medium and large 1, 500 to 600 pounds from 104.00 to 118.00, 5 to 6 weight heifers from 95.50 to 97.00 per hundredweight.
Noon, boxed beef cutout values were 1.19 higher at 142.83 on the choice and .30 higher at 136.04 on the select.
