Pork supply down from last month, but up from last year

The monthly cold storage numbers showed pork supplies down from last month but up from last year as the continued economic uncertainties lead to packers cut back slaughter while consumers spend less in the supermarket.

Total pork supplies were up 9% from a year ago with closely watched belly stocks up 3% on the year.

Overall, the red meat supply was up 1% from last month and 6% above last year with beef supplies 4% larger than a month ago and 2% higher than a year ago.
