Tuesday midday cash livestock markets
Iowa/Minneosta direct trade hogs are down 1.23 on a carcass basis at 50.71, Western direct down 1.19 at 50.71, the East is 1.13 lower at 50.24. Missouri direct base carcass meat price 1.00 to 4.00 lower from 45.00 to 49.00.
Pork carcass value is struggling in the wake of last week’s chain speed and product. The cutout was over a dollar lower on Monday linked to lower loins, rib and ham sales. Hog slaughter is again predicted to be over two-million head this week.
The feedlot cattle trade is quiet, with bids poorly defined. The new show lists are larger in Nebraska and Colorado but smaller in Kansas, and about steady in Texas. Asking prices are generally 84 to 85 in the South, and 134 to 135 on the dressed in the North. Slaughter steers and heifers at United Producers, Shelbyville, IL are trading steady to .50 lower, Holstein steers are steady in a light test. Steers and heifers topped at 85.00.
Choice boxed beef is .27 higher at 143.08, and select is up .10 at 136.42.
Feeder cattle receipts at the Oklahoma National Stockyards on Monday totaled 7393 head. Feeder steers and heifers were steady, with steer and heifer calves 1.00 to 2.00 higher. Steer calves weighing 550 to 600 pounds traded from 103.00 to 113.25, the same weight heifer calves from 98.00 to 103.50.
Estimated sheep receipts at Sioux Falls 1000 head on Tuesday. Slaughter lambs are mostly 2.00 to 3.00 lower. Choice 2-3 choice and prime lambs weighing 128 to 139 pounds traded from 97.50 to 98.00.
