Twelfth time a charm for Montana chanter

Billings, Montana, auctioneer Ty Thompson is the World Livestock Auctioneer Champion. The event Saturday at the Fergus Falls, Minnesota, Livestock Auction Market featured 33 livestock auctioneers.Livestock Marketing Association communications director John McBride says it’s the 12th time that Thompson has been in the contest.

“Ty has been knocking on the door for quite a long time. I think he’s been Reserve World Champion twice, he’s been runner-up once,” McBride told Brownfield Monday. “The Reserve Champion is Tom Frey of Creston, Iowa and the Third Place World Champion is a rookie this year; Kyle Shobe of Lewistown, Montana.” Shobe, at 26-years-old was also named Rookie of the Year.

Thompson says twelve times in the contest will make him a better champion. The contest next year is in Oklahoma City.
