Providing a holistic approach to risk management

FRR

The Indiana Soybean Alliance has partnered with Purdue University’s Center for Commercial Agriculture to give farmers an online resource to take a more holistic approach to risk management.

Megan Kuhn, with the Indiana Soybean Alliance says risk management is becoming increasingly important as margins get even tighter.  She says the website is an interactive tool that allows farmers to assess risk on their farm.  “It walks them through some of the business planning and some of the things they might not think about as risk,” she says.  “One of those is cash rents – and looking at that in forms of case studies. So they can maybe see their operations and these situations.”

She tells Brownfield in addition to the on-line risk-management tool, Indiana Soybean Alliance is also offering Risk Management Workshops.

The workshop is free and runs from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Monday, December 7, with lunch provided by Beck’s Hybrids. Pre-registration is required at www.indianasoybean.com/forum.

In addition to the December 7 workshop, two other risk management workshops are scheduled:

  • January 11: Indiana Grand, Shelbyville, Ind.
  • January 14: Fort Wayne Farm Show, Fort Wayne, Ind.
