Nearly 300 sold at Show-Me Select Replacement Heifer Sale

Programs ICONNearly 300 replacement bred heifers have been sold at the Southwest Missouri Show-Me Select Replacement (SMS) heifer Sale at the Joplin Regional Stockyards. The top selling lot brought $3,200 a head.

Heifers in the offering on Friday were in the 2nd and 3rd stage of pregnancy. The demand was good and all prices were strong compared to the decline in the overall cattle industry. The sale average was $2,477 about $400 less per head than the November sale in 2014.

The Show-Me Select program was started to make calving easier and reduce death loss of heifers and their calves. Now, improved genetics boost the market value of both heifers and steers in the herd.
