$145 million in DMC payments so far

As of this week, the USDA estimates payments to farmers enrolled in the Dairy Coverage Program will exceed at least $145 million.

Nearly half of the nation’s more than 37,000 licensed dairy farms have enrolled in the program so far. 

University of Wisconsin dairy economist Mark Stephenson says not enrolling is like walking by a dollar and not picking it up. “Those are significant payments and for those folks who haven’t signed up, there’s still plenty of time.”     

DMC payments have triggered for January, February, March, April, and May.  States receiving the most dollars from the program include Wisconsin, Minnesota, and New York.
