2023 Farm Bill continues to be a top priority for the nation’s soybean growers
American Soybean Association CEO Steve Censky says the on-time completion of the 2023 Farm Bill is a top priority.
“We’re still pushing Congress to enact a farm bill on time and this year,” he says. “So far, Congress has announced its intent to do that and so we’re hopeful that Congress can.”
Censky tells Brownfield, “I think a big part of what’s going to be impacted there is going to be what are the resources that the agriculture committees have to work with. We would love to see more resources for the farm bill because we know that input prices for farmers have gone up. We want to make sure that we maintain crop insurance, but we also want to improve the soybean safety net.”
He says funding for trade and research is also a top priority.
“We want to double market development funds that are so important for developing those foreign markets of the future,” he says. “We would love to invest more in agriculture research and all of that requires more resources. If we just have a status quo farm bill or a farm bill that reduces funding, it’s going to be very difficult.”
Brownfield interviewed Censky during the recent Clean Fuels Conference in Tampa.
