2024 U.S. soybean production tops 2023
The USDA says 2024 soybean production topped 2023.
The crop of 4.366 billion bushels was up 5% on the year, with an average yield of 50.7 bushels per acre on harvested area of 86.05 million acres. In 2023, production was 4.162 billion bushels with an average yield of 50.6 bushels per acre on harvested area of 82.271 million acres.
Corn production of 14.867 billion bushels was 3% lower than the prior year, but with a record average yield of 179.3 bushels per acre on harvested area of 82.896 million acres. The year before, corn totaled 15.341 billion bushels with an average yield of 177.3 bushels per acre on harvested area of 86.506 million acres.
Those numbers were less than what the USDA was projecting in December, pulling ending stocks for both corn and beans lower. That helped cancel out lower feed and export demand for corn, with no other major changes to the supply and demand tables for soybeans.
U.S. wheat ending stocks were up slightly, primarily on an increase in imports.
The next round of supply and demand numbers is out February 11th.
