2025 – The year of difficult weed pressure

A field market development specialist with Valent says the wetter-than-expected summer has made it difficult to manage weeds.
Garrison Gundy covers Kansas, Nebraska and Colorado…
“It’s been really hard to control, especially Palmer and waterhemp this year. I think a lot of the really big rains washed some of our residuals out of the soil profile. It’s been a battle.”
He tells Brownfield post-emergence herbicide applications have been few and far between.
“We had a two week window there that it was really hard to control anything. The temperatures were cool and it was kind of wet. That two week period it was really hard to control especially pigweeds this year.”
Gundy says Palmer amaranth has been the most problematic weed in his coverage area.
He spoke to Brownfield at the 2025 Ag PhD Field Day near Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
