225 John Deere employees facing layoff at East Moline location

More than 200 production employees at John Deere Harvester Works in East Moline, Illinois will be placed on indefinite layoff next month.

In a statement to Brownfield, the company says the move is consistent with its strategy to balance the size of its production workforce with the needs of each individual factory to optimize the workforce at each facility. Factory leadership informed the employees this week that the layoff is effective October 16th.

About 2300 employees currently work at the factory with nearly 2,000 of those in production and maintenance roles.

The layoff comes less than two years after a five-week labor strike by more than 10,000 employees at 14 facilities regarding wages and benefits.

Last month, Deere & Company announced its third quarter net income was $2.978 billion, a jump from $1.884 billion in the third quarter of 2022.
