57% of U.S. corn, 49% of soybeans planted

Planting and early emergence of corn and soybeans are steadily progressing across the U.S.

The USDA says 57% of U.S. corn has been planted as of Sunday, ahead of the five-year average of 52%. Twenty-three percent of the crop has emerged – up from 13% the previous week.

Soybeans are 49% planted, ahead of 36% on average, with 20% of the crop emerged.

Winter wheat conditions have been on a steady decline, currently rated 28% good to excellent which is down from 31% last week and 46% last year.

The U.S. spring wheat crop is 53% planted, near the average pace, and 23% has emerged.

Cotton planting has reached 29% completion, in-line with the five-year average. 

Rice is 84% planted with 69% of the crop emerged, both well ahead of their respective average pace.

The sorghum crop is 25% planted, up slightly from the five-year average.

Pasture and range conditions are rated 31% good to excellent across the U.S., which is up slightly from 30% last week. 

The USDA’s national weekly crop progress and condition reports are scheduled to run through the end of November.
