61% of Kansas corn, 33% of soybeans planted

The USDA says farmers in Kansas have had a productive spring.

As of Sunday, 61% of the state’s expected corn crop has been planted, ahead of 57% last year and the five-year average of 56%. Forty-one percent of the crop has emerged.

Soybeans are 33% planted, ahead of the average pace of 26%, with 13% of the crop emerged.

The sorghum crop is 7% planted, near 6% last year.

Winter wheat in the state is rated 31% good to excellent with 73% of the crop headed.
