63% of U.S. corn, soybeans rated good to excellent

U.S. crop condition ratings were steady to lower over the past week. That followed another generally mixed week of weather across the nation, including a hot, dry pattern in parts of the Midwest and Plains that’s had at least some impact on corn and soybeans.

The USDA says 63% of U.S. corn is in good to excellent shape, down 4% on the week, with 78% of the crop silking and 25% at the dough making stage.

63% of soybeans are good to excellent, 3% less than last week, with 80% blooming and 47% at the pod setting stage.

81% of winter wheat is harvested, compared to the five-year average of 79%.

53% of spring wheat is called good to excellent, unchanged, but 15% is rated as poor to very poor, up 3%, with 92% headed and 2% harvested.

46% of cotton is reported as good to excellent, 1% higher, with 81% squaring and 45% setting bolls.

71% of rice is good to excellent, holding steady, with 67% of the crop headed.

41% of sorghum is in good to excellent condition, a week-to-week decline of 4%, and 40% is headed with 22% of the crop coloring.

29% of U.S. pastures and rangelands are good to excellent, with 29% fair, and 42% poor to very poor, matching last week’s update.
