67% of U.S. corn, 66% of soybeans good to excellent

Not many changes to U.S. corn and soybean condition ratings over the past week as high heat blankets much of the Midwest and Plains. Still, state-by-state, the numbers vary widely, and both of those crops are in key stages of development and weather could potentially trim yield.

The USDA says 67% of U.S. corn is rated good to excellent, down 1%, with 59% silking and 13% at the dough making stage.

66% of soybeans are good to excellent, up 1%, and 66% of the crop is blooming with 32% at the pod setting stage.

74% of winter wheat is harvested, compared to the five-year average of 71%.

53% of spring wheat is called good to excellent, a drop of 5%, with 86% of the crop headed.

45% of cotton is in good to excellent shape, 1% higher, with 73% squaring and 32% at the boll setting stage.

71% of cotton is reported as good to excellent, dropping 7% on the week, and 47% of the crop has headed.

45% of sorghum is in good to excellent condition, holding steady, as 34% of the crop has headed and 16% is coloring.

29% of U.S. pastures and rangelands are good to excellent, 1% lower than last week and 14% below last year.
