68% of U.S. corn, soybeans in good to excellent condition

The USDA’s national corn and soybean condition ratings held steady over the past week. While there are areas of concern, overall, crop development weather is mostly favorable in much of the Midwest and Plains.

The USDA says 68% of U.S. corn is rated good to excellent, with 41% of the crop silking and 8% at the dough making stage, both ahead of the respective five-year averages.

68% of soybeans are good to excellent, with 51% blooming and 18% at the pod setting stage, faster than average.

71% of winter wheat is harvested, compared to 62% normally in mid-July.

77% of the spring wheat crop is in good to excellent shape, up 2% on the week, with 76% headed, slightly slower than most years.

45% of cotton is in good to excellent condition, unchanged, with 64% of the crop squaring and 27% setting bolls, near typical for both.

80% of the rice crop is called good to excellent, down 1%, while 44% is headed, ahead of average.

57% of the sorghum crop is reported as good to excellent, 2% lower, with 29% headed and 16% coloring, close to normal.

41% of U.S. pastures and rangelands are good to excellent, a decline of 3% on the week.

The USDA’s weekly national crop progress and condition reports run through the end of November.
