74% of Kansas corn, 43% of soybeans planted

Farmers in Kansas are making solid progress on corn and soybean planting.

USDA says as of Sunday 74% of the state’s expected corn crop has been planted, ahead of the five-year average of 69% and the 68% pace last year. Fifty-three percent of the crop has emerged.

Soybeans planted is at 43%, ahead of the five-year average of 39%, with 23% of the crop emerged.

Sunflowers are 6% planted, near the five-year average of 8%.

The state’s winter wheat crop is in 33% good to excellent condition with 90% of the crop headed.
