78% of Iowa corn, soybeans rated good to excellent

An Iowa-based agronomist says it’s been an impressive growing season in his coverage area.

“It was a little bit cooler there through April and especially May. Got a little bit dried out and then into June we got some more heat and gained some moisture.”

According to the USDA’s Crop Progress report on Monday, 78% of Iowa’s expected corn crop remains in good to excellent condition. Twenty-six percent of the crop has dented, 83% is in the dough stage, and 99% is silking.

Soybeans are at 78% good to excellent with 82% of the crop setting pods.
