81% of Minnesota corn rated good to excellent as crops thrive

USDA’s latest weekly crop report says 81 percent of corn in the state is rated in good to excellent condition, up from 80 percent last week.

Tim Waibel farms near Courtland in south-central Minnesota and tells Brownfield his corn looks excellent.

“And the soybeans I would say would not be much behind excellent, they’re pretty good. A little iron chlorosis in some of the soybeans, but we’ve had very favorable rains.”

USDA calls 80 percent of the state’s soybeans good to excellent, up three percent on the week.

Waibel says he planted soybeans first this year.

“We were done by April 19th with our beans already, so they were in the ground a long time. And then the corn, we started immediately after that.”

Topsoil moisture levels in Minnesota are rated 75 percent adequate to surplus.
