97% of U.S. corn, 92% of soybeans planted

Corn and soybean planting has nearly wrapped up across the U.S.

The USDA says 97% of the U.S. corn crop has been planted as of Sunday, near the five-year average of 96%. Eighty-six percent of the crop has emerged and 67% of the crop is in good to excellent condition.

Soybeans are 92% planted, ahead of 88% on average, with 79% of the crop emerged. Soybeans are rated 65% good to excellent.

The winter wheat harvest is underway at 11% completion. Ninety-two percent of the crop has headed and its overall condition is rated 25% good to excellent.

The spring wheat crop is 98% planted, just ahead of the average pace of 95%, and 87% of the crop has emerged.

Seventy-seven percent of U.S. cotton has been planted, even with the five-year average, with 13% of the crop squaring. Cotton condition is rated 53% good to excellent.

U.S. rice is in 70% good to excellent condition with 94% of the crop emerged.

Sorghum planting has reached 53% completion, below the five-year average of 57%.

Pasture and range conditions are rated 31% good to excellent, slightly higher than 30% from the week prior.

The USDA’s national weekly crop progress and condition reports are scheduled to run through the end of November.
