HPAI confirmed in Jay County duck facility
A commercial duck breeding facility in Jay County, Indiana, is the latest poultry operation to test positive for highly pathogenic avian influenza. This is the 23rd positive case of HPAI since the start of the year.
According to the Indiana Board of Animal Health, more than 3,300 birds will be depopulated to help control the spread of the virus. Control and surveillance zones have been established in parts of Jay and Adams counties in Indiana.
HPAI has been identified on more than 1,300 premises in all 50 states since February 2022.
Federal and state partners are working jointly on additional surveillance and testing in areas around the affected flocks. The U.S. has the strongest avian influenza surveillance program in the world, and USDA is actively working with its partners to look for the disease in commercial poultry operations, live bird markets, and in migratory wild bird populations.
