A southwest Indiana farmer says he’s made a commitment to climate-smart ag practices.
Don Villwock, who also represents 25×25 Solutions from the Land, says his latest focus has been the impacts of machinery on soil. “We put all of our machines on tracks so we can cause less compaction. We’re no-tillers. Those little minor adjustments hopefully make us more sustainable and most importantly more profitable.”
Speaking to Brownfield at the 2024 NAFB Convention in Kansas City, he said he hopes more farmers will adopt conservation practices to help tackle climate change. “We need to make our soils more resilient. We know through research that if we retain more carbon in the soil, it holds more water, makes us more drought proof as we have these spells where we don’t get water.”
Villwock says 25×25 Solutions from the Land helps farmers make informed decisions when managing new risks under changing conditions.
