A mixed month for turkey hatchery numbers
The USDA’s latest turkey hatchery numbers are showing mixed supply signals.
There were 24.322 million turkey eggs in incubation on February 1st, 2026, falling 5% from January 1st and 3% from February 1st, 2025, implying a tighter supply later this year.
However, other numbers are pointing to at least a short-term expansion.
21.877 million poults were hatched during January, and another 20.25 million were placed into meat production, both up 3% on the year.
The USDA recently made a month-to-month cut in its annual turkey production projection but still expects 2026 production to top 2025.
The next guess is out March 10th.
