A warm and wet winter expected
An ag meteorologist is anticipating a wetter and warmer than average winter.
Greg Soulje says that could help areas impacted by drought.
“The only drier areas we are seeing are up across the Dakotas, in the uppermost Midwest, but everyone else, including Ohio and the Western Corn Belt should see a mild and wet conclusion to autumn and beginning part of the winter season,” he says.
He tells Brownfield La Niña has worsened the Atlantic hurricane season.
“We’re not done with the tropical season by any means,” he says. “On the calendar, it officially ends on November 30th. It may make a run west of the Delta by the third week of November.”
The National Weather Service says since 2010, the majority of winter weather seasons have either been near-normal or among the warmest of recorded winters.
Soulje says if La Niña weakens, it could drive more variability throughout the late winter months.
