ADAI’s 30th annual ice cream social benefits Second Helpings
The American Dairy Association of Indiana has hosted an ice cream social for the past three decades with all proceeds benefiting a nonprofit organization.
This year the event benefited Second Helpings, an organization that reduces food waste by taking leftover food from wholesalers, retailers, and restaurants and preparing meals for people in need.
Brooke Williams, director of communications for the American Dairy Association of Indiana, says it’s an opportunity for dairy farmers to give back.
“It’s really important for our dairy farmers and for us to pick an organization that’s doing great things in the community,” she says. “So, one three-dollar sundae turns around and gets about three meals to someone who is need.”

Jennifer Vigran, CEO of Second Helpings, says they are thankful to be partnering with ADAI.
“We know that dairy is a really valuable nutrition source so we are proud to partner with them on something that is as fun as a great big ice cream social, but we’re also proud to partner with them and make sure that our meals go out and contain good servings of dairy products,” she says.

Second Helpings prepares meals for thousands of hungry children and adults and delivers them free of charge in the Greater Indianapolis area. They also train underemployed and unemployed adults in careers in the culinary industry.
