Additional 20 Michigan counties given disaster designation

The USDA has declared 20 additional counties in Michigan as primary natural disaster areas after excessive rain and flooding since last May and beyond.

Ag Secretary Perdue previously declared 43 counties across Michigan eligible for emergency assistance in November and said the agency needed additional production loss information to determine if additional counties as requested by Governor Whitmer were eligible for a primary designation.

Farmers in primary counties as well as 36 contiguous counties in Michigan, and two counties in Indiana, are now able to apply for emergency Farm Service Agency assistance and have until the end of September to apply for loans.
