AFBF wants market-based incentives in climate change legislation
American Farm Bureau wants a market-based incentive programto address the issue of climate change, rather than a government-mandated program.
The farm organization outlined its goals for climate change legislation in a survey recently sent to the House Agriculture Committee. In the questionnaire, AFBF president Bob Stallmanemphasized that Congress should not enact legislation mandating carbon emission reductions to levels not justified by sound science. And Stallman said any legislation designed to reduce carbon emissions must make sure the costs don’t outweigh the benefits.
Stallman saysCongress should not enact a carbon tax. And he says a cap-and-trade program should be voluntary.
