AFBF’s Duvall: farm economy ‘terrible’ as farmers face mounting financial pressure
The president of American Farm Bureau isn’t mincing words when it comes to the current struggles in agriculture.
Zippy Duvall says farmers continue to face low commodity prices and high input costs.
“The farm economy is terrible. And along with all the things we’re doing to try to get a farm bill done, we’re also asking for some more assistance for our farmers.”
Speaking to Brownfield at Farmfest in southwest Minnesota Tuesday, he said geopolitical issues are driving up production costs.
“The trade tariffs and the wars that we’ve seen across the world have interfered with the global pricing of inputs that we have, whether it be the metal that goes into machinery or whether it be the fertilizers that we buy.”
Duvall says he is encouraged by the Trump administration’s efforts to expand domestic fertilizer production.
Zippy has direct responsibility for this debacle in lost foreign market share that traces directly back to 2018 when he convienced his members that becoming a permenant fixture up trumps *** was a good investment. And now, he’s advocating, on behalf of members who loathe and mock those less fortunate who need public assistance to simply feed their families, for more taxpayer assistance from government. Mindboggling hypocrisy that makes his farmer members look weak, needy, and small.
