AFBF’s Duvall outlines farm bill, trade concerns with Iowa Farm Bureau members

The president of the American Farm Bureau Federation says there are several uncertainties impacting farmers that need to be addressed in early 2025.

“We are extremely disappointed we don’t have a new farm bill,” Zippy Duvall said Tuesday.

Duvall says a new five-year farm bill should be a top priority for the new Congress. “We don’t farm in the same environment we did in 2018, so we continue to push for that. We won’t give up.”

He says agricultural trade is another concern. “I know that the new administration is talking about tariffs. We don’t support tariffs. We know that when tariffs are put on that other countries take it out on American agriculture and we’re real fearful about what might happen in that area.”

Duvall was the keynote speaker at this week’s Iowa Farm Bureau annual meeting in Des Moines.
