AFBF’s top economist departing, confident in ongoing initiatives

American Farm Bureau Federation’s chief economist is confident the group’s initiatives are in good hands after he departs.

John Newton says, “I don’t think there’s any concern. I think we’ve got a great team of economists that will keep everything moving.”

Newton tells Brownfield projects he is been deeply involved in such as re-evaluating the Federal Milk Marketing Order system will still move forward through Farm Bureau. “I anticipate it will. You know, our dairy working group was just approved by our board and our staff will be running not only our dairy working group but our cattle, hog, and sheep working groups as well.”

Newton announced this week he will continue working on ag economic issues as a part of Senator John Boozman’s staff starting April 19th.  Boozman is the Ranking Member of the Senate Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Committee.
