AFT & ADM continue re:generations partnership; cover crop incentives available

The Midwest director of American Farmland Trust says farmers utilizing cover crops can again receive incentives through the ADM re:generations program.

Kris Reynolds tells Brownfield second year enrollment is now open.

“Yeah, really excited to continue our partnership with ADM.”  He says, “Last year, we had a goal of 225,000 cover crop acres and we met that goal and even slightly exceeded it. This year, 275,000 acres is the goal here in Illinois.”

Acreage goals vary by each of the 22 states where the program is available.

Reynolds says the goal is to reduce erosion and improve water quality by offering more than just financial assistance to farmers.

“I think the resources that we’ve been providing to farmers have been really helpful in creating that community around the practice, but also making sure that they’re successful,” he says.

He says long-time cover crop users can also benefit from the program.

“Generally speaking, most private programs like ADM re:generations could be stacked with a state or federal program.”  He says, “There are some exceptions, of course.”
