After Easter planting expected in northern Corn Belt

Many farmers are waiting to plant in the northern Corn Belt.

Heather Morris covers the Dakotas, Minnesota, and Wisconsin for Beck’s Hybrids and says conditions are cool.

“We’re not seeing a ton right now, but I know in South Dakota there was some work going on. But a lot of talk about enjoying the Easter weekend and then getting going, and I think that is similar in the Minnesota and Wisconsin areas. Everyone is getting really ready.”

She tells Brownfield farmers have done a lot of pre-plant fieldwork.

“So I would say in the next five days to two weeks we should see a lot of activity going on in my region.”

Nationally, corn planting is off to a normal start with about two percent of the crop planted as of Sunday.
