Ag economist encourages farmers to “control the controllables”
An ag economist who farms in southern Minnesota encourages farmers to control the controllables in the face of tight margins.
Megan Roberts works for Compeer Financial and says there’s a lot of uncertainty right now.
“And we don’t have a lot of control over what happens with tariffs, we don’t have a lot of control over what happens next with planting or taxes, whatever it might be. What we do have control over is our own operation.”
She tells Brownfield controlling the controllables begins with identifying a break-even.
“And that’s really diving into your own margin management, finding those places where you can save those extra pennies when available. Finding the ways to get that extra few cents on every bushel sold or every hundredweight sold.”
She says that’s an excellent approach in years of uncertainty.
Roberts made these comments during an upcoming Brownfield content partnership podcast with Compeer Financial.
